In our Math Adventures math workshop, Kindergarten and 1st grade students will develop and strengthen foundational math skills:

  • Counting Foundations
Counting from 1-20 and 1-100 provides the basic foundation for all future math concepts. Grasping this fundamental skill ensures seamless progression in more advanced numerical tasks.
  • Number Recognition and Writing
Recognizing and writing numbers aids in understanding mathematical symbols and equations. Being proficient in this allows for more efficient computations and problem-solving.
  • Elementary Arithmetic
Adding and subtracting within the 0-20 range are the keystones of arithmetic. Mastering this forms the groundwork for tackling more complex mathematical challenges.
  • Strategies for 5’s and 10’s
Mastering the art of making 5’s and 10’s enables quicker mental math. This skill is pivotal for efficiently breaking down and solving arithmetic problems.
  • Exploring Multiples of 10
Understanding and adding multiples of 10 paves the way for multiplication. This foundation is crucial for complex calculations and understanding number patterns.
  • Solving for Missing Numbers
Activities centered on missing addends and subtrahends enhance problem-solving abilities. They teach students to think critically, which is essential for advanced math topics.
  • Number Line Journeys
Using number lines offers a visual method to understand sequences and operations. This tool is vital for bridging the gap between abstract concepts and practical applications.

Meanwhile, our 2nd and 3rd graders will delve into understanding more advanced topics:

  • Grasping Place Value
Understanding place value is central to deciphering and using large numbers. A strong foundation in this area ensures accurate calculations in all math operations.
  • Broadened Arithmetic
Addition and subtraction within 0-1000 expand a student’s range of computational skills. Mastery in this range prepares them for more intricate mathematical challenges.
  • Word Problem Strategies
Techniques for solving word problems equip students to apply math in real-world situations. These skills enhance critical thinking and practical problem-solving abilities.
  • The Art of Skip Counting
Skip counting by 2s and 5s offers an efficient way to calculate and predict sequences. It’s a stepping stone towards understanding more advanced multiplication concepts.
  • Foundations of Multiplication and Division
An introduction to multiplication and division lays the groundwork for more advanced math topics. Grasping these operations is crucial for a wide range of forthcoming mathematical disciplines.
  • Number Line Proficiency
Advanced work with number lines helps visualize mathematical operations and concepts. It provides a tangible method to understand abstract numerical relationships.
  • Money Matters
Handling dollars and cents instills practical skills needed for everyday financial literacy. This knowledge is not only academically valuable but also essential for paving the road for future personal financial management.
